Driver Vista Empire 713x

Living in St. Lucia

Friday, May 21, noon: Cay is, we are ready to board the Express islands, the boat that will take us to Saint Lucia, T crossed the voisine.La is pretty hectic, but thanks to MERCALM, no worries! At the port of Castries, we are greeted by taxis rather "spikes", but we seek the bus station which takes us into Big Islet. After some hesitation, we enter the minivan line 1A. It takes about 15 minutes, the price of 5 dollars for two EC (less than 2 euros). We arrive in the small town of Gros Islet, which is preparing its "Friday Night". Our house is nice, it's a small studio with terrace and sea view The owner is French, she tells us what to do on the island.
17.30, and we still do not eat .. he is hungry! We dénichons a small bakery where we buy cakes "smothers-Christian" (To put it mildly), we calerons until evening without any problems! 18h: first binouse, finally! Sipped from the street where prepared to jump up tonight (turntables, wall of sound, smoked chicken, fresh beer ... all conditions are met for a good soiré e!). We meet a few local farmers who want us to taste their products ... they are very warm, even if they are a little disappointed when they discover that we are not lovers of organic grass! Many tourists in the streets, many cruise lines whose outfits and attitudes are totally out of step with the style of the evening. We still encounter some fine specimens: a 10 year old frantically waving a wooden statuette with a Kekette spring, a seller of excited necklaces, a quincagénaire (on acid? ?) that ignites the dance floor while her husband (rather static) filmed the scene making sure that his wife remains permanently outside the frame ... We we drink of Red Stripe in an atmosphere similar to that of the Notting Hill Carnival, cool!

Saturday, May 22: Breakfast on the seafront, and departure for the south of the island. We are challenged as we left the house by a bus driver who is going to Castries. After we have installed in the bus, he asks us to wait 2 minutes .... and hand shower (énorme!). We finally leave, but 5 minutes later, the drama: the tire exploded! No problem for our driver, he continued to drive about 3 kms before deciding to use their spare ... Unfortunately, it seems very deflated, and we are therefore obliged to take another bus! Arriving in Castries, we must now find the bus that leads in the South, and especially it is full wait to leave. 30 minutes later and passed 10 liters of sweat, go! The road is winding and long, but the scenery is beautiful and relatively safe driver. Arrived in Soufriere, we still need to take another bus that takes us to the gloomy Coubaril Housing. The place looks deserted, anyone coming ... We are moving forward and spot a rastaman. It is an employee who takes us around the island and explained in the Anglo-Creole working cocoa, coconut, ... He teaches us the different plants, us to taste the local fruits, sugar cane juice.
He says his name "Christmas" and be "gente méssieu. His name is rasta Jahraw. We propose to make us a ride to the falls and Sulphur Springs, Pépette few cons of course ... The hike is nice, even if the end is hard and I'm 2 finger discomfort + vomit .
We leave there and join the Jahraw Spinges sulfur, which is actually the center of the crater of the Soufriere volcano, the only volcano in the world for which we can reach the center of the crater by car. We stay 10 minutes because it is not pretty and it smells very particular high sulfur. Back off at the Soufriere Hills in search of a bus to take us back to Castries, but this time through the east coast.
Driving is more than sport, the reports are driven to their maximum, and spit BAFl soca and reggae music at full volume. Stop at Old Fort, where we eat our first meal of the day (16h), in a very nice blanket, who serves good local cuisine (even if we did not recognize what meat it was) in a greasy spoon made of wood. The countdown to the hour by bus, the driver with the most mad of stay: oil light on, speedometer HS (so much better, at least it saved us know how fast they drove ...), passing in the turns, copilot perched shouting unintelligible phrases ... Finally arrived in Castries, Gros Islet last bus after a pit stop to refuel for "Piton", the local beer. After a good shower, binouse tasting on the terrace of our house, and small local meal at Duke's BBQ, which serves fresh fish hyper barbecued sauce and decorated with a dog : sweet!
Sunday, May 23: After a good night's sleep, we left for Pigeon Island Bay Guesthouse. It is a protected natural site, a former strategic point of defense of the island. To achieve this, we must traverserles beaches of posh hotels and take a shuttle boat known as a bell, brilliant! There, we balladons anciennnes among the ruins of the facilities of the army, and take our first bath St. Lucian. We eat very well and very abundantly in "wooden leg", where we are also getting pretty sunburnt (GAECISSIMES!!).
The rest of the afternoon will go under a raisinier. Then start for our last night on the island to another guesthouse, Henry Lapanache. After 20 minutes of walking under a blazing sun, and loaded our backpacks dinghies, we finally arrive at their destination. The place is much more quaint and mostly away from bars and restaurants of the town. After a good shower (cold tap to toe for health reasons), we head off (again!) To Rodney Bay, a favorite tourist attraction of St. Lucia. Just arrived, we decided to leave, we préfrons spend our last evening in the small village of Gros Islet, especially since it is a country night. On the menu: callaloo soup (a sort of big green beans, okra Martinique equivalent) and pumpkin (pumpkin), snapper Creole (one for two, for lack of money available) and Red Stripe to wash it all! The last evening will be quiet, as the last day elsewhere (Whit Monday, everything is closed and we are like donkeys loaded with our backpacks !). The stay shall terminate by rapid immersion in a carnival atmosphere: soca, uniforms, Heat!
A nice stay with you for re-inflated returns back to work! Hugs to all and see you soon!

Women In Girdles Playing

Turtles!

Yesterday evening, after a tiring day's work well, we were joined by family Veloso for an evening like no other: in search of turtles laying ... .
After a pit stop at Pizza Nico (the beers were nice and cool in the cooler!) en route to the North Atlantic, specifically the loop Charpentier in Marigot.
arrived there, no one ... not a good omen. But we do not let demoralize, and we enjoy our pizzas on the sand, despite the protests of bitching and Mr. Veloso .... We do not see them, and light a fire to warm the atmosphere ...
Back in the car, we decided to wait a little, and miraculously, we saw flashes on the beach ... we hasten, and we discover a énormissime turtle digging a hole to lay eggs (about 1.60 m long!). It's beautiful, and we are lucky because we see a second!
Finally, a great night, hoping that some could share it with us soon, is not it Chanchan?? Hugs to all!
